Brief description
If you've made hats in felt before, you may have thought that such hats always have to be shaped on wooden blocks. This is not the case, however. The felt ‘cones’ and ‘capelines’ (the technical names for the preformed shapes used) are made from such beautiful, thick fur-felt that, by using steam and some careful manipulation, brim shapes, and even whole hats can be formed by hand. In this ebook we show you how to add a hand-moulded brim to a blocked crown, to wonderful effect. Learn this technique and you'll be able to apply it to create a much wider range of hats than would have been possible without this skill. And don’t throw away any left-over pieces of this lovely felt – they can be made into cocktail-style hats by a very similar method – as we show in our fully illustrated step-by-step guide.
