Brief description
Once you have learned the skills of creating hats in different fabrics, and have tried a number of different block shapes, there will inevitably come a time when you ask yourself – how can I make even more spectacular hats? Hats can be infinitely varied and there is so much opportunity for design innovation! While not many customers want something that is too noticeably ‘way out’ or over-the-top, many would like a hat which stands out from the crowd without being too ‘different’. A hat with a double brim could be what they are looking for!
This is not really a hat for a complete beginner to attempt, but we do cover all the necessary millinery techniques, so that even if you have only a little experience, you should not find it too difficult. It is a little more time consuming than a single brim hat, but the result will be well worth it. A hat like this in your studio or showroom will attract just the right kind of attention, marking you out as a master milliner, well able to fulfil whatever orders come your way!
We use both straw and sinamay in the hat we describe and you may choose to use more or less of either fabric, or just one. However, we feel that the combination of the two, especially as they are available in the same colour range, gives an extra beauty and individuality to the design.
In this e-book, we cover another method of blocking an up-turned brim in sinamay, different to that used in our ‘Sinamay 2’ e-book. This can be applied to single brimmed hats too and is very useful to know. |
