Brief description
The art of making hats by stitching strip materials has been practiced for centuries, and in this ebook, we've brought the method into the 21st century and show you how to use an ordinary domestic sewing machine to create hats from strip fabrics of all kinds. You don’t need any previous experience or special equipment, although a simply shaped hat block will be a help. (These can often be found on ebay quite cheaply). If you don’t have one, then you can use your own head (or someone else’s!) as a guide. The method is quite unlike normal hat making using felt, straw or sinamay, and will be a revelation to you if you’ve never come across it before. It’s not difficult to learn either, as you see Master Milliner Jane Smith at work in the step-by-step photographs and follow her simple instructions.

One of the nicest things about learning to create these hats is that old or used stitched strip hats can easily be undone and the strip used again for practice. The first hat shown in the ebook uses this method. This means that you can learn and practice without wasting new or expensive materials.

Take a tangle of pulled-out strip straw and, in no time at all, create a beautiful little hat.
